The Dallas Independent School District currently operates 149 elementary schools, 33 middle schools, 24 high schools, 8 magnet high schools, and 14 alternative schools. These 228 schools are attended by more than 160,000 students who live in Dallas, Addison, Balch Springs, Carrollton, Cockrell Hill, Farmers Branch, Garland, Highland Park, Hutchins, Mesquite, Seagoville, University Park, and Wilmer.
For the 2009-2010 school year, Dallas ISD was rated academically acceptable by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Among the 224 campuses rated, 63 received exemplary ratings, 62 received recognized ratings, 84 received academically acceptable ratings and 15 received academically unacceptable ratings. The percentage of Dallas ISD students passing the 2009-2010 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was somewhat lower than for all Texas schools.
Seventeen Dallas ISD schools are attended by students living in the luxury home neighborhoods profiled on this web site. As shown below, six of these campuses were rated exemplary by the TEA based on their 2009-2010 school year performances, five were rated recognized, four received academically acceptable ratings and two received academically unacceptable ratings.
