The Dallas Independent School District currently operates 158 elementary schools, 29 middle schools, 24 high schools, 8 magnet high schools, and 7 alternative schools. These 226 schools are attended by more than 160,000 students who live in Dallas, Addison, Balch Springs, Carrollton, Cockrell Hill, Farmers Branch, Garland, Highland Park, Hutchins, Mesquite, Seagoville, University Park, and Wilmer.
For the 2006-2007 school year, Dallas ISD was rated academically acceptable by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Among the 228 campuses rated, 15 received exemplary ratings, 36 received recognized ratings, 145 received academically acceptable ratings, 26 received academically unacceptable ratings, and 6 were not rated. The percentage of Dallas ISD students passing the 2006-2007 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was somewhat lower than for all Texas schools.
Thirteen Dallas ISD schools are attended by students living in the luxury home neighborhoods profiled on this web site. As shown below, two of these campuses were rated recognized by the TEA based on their 2006-2007 school year performances, ten received academically acceptable ratings, and one received an academically unacceptable rating.
